The Rotunda on Bedford Basin

Prince’s Lodge Round House

Tucked away on the shore of Bedford Basin is a structure built in the 1790s by Prince Edward Augustus, Duke of Kent as part of the estate built during Prince Edward’s years in Halifax-between 1794 and 1800.

The Round House (or rotunda) was part of the lavish estate he built as a “romantic abode” for his mistress, the mysterious Julie St. Laurent. According to local legend the walkways through the property spelled out Julie’s name.

After hanging out at the rotunda, I then finished my cycle down the Bedford Basin to Fire Station #5 on Bayers Road.
