Government of Canada - Canadian Program for Cyber Security Certification Request for Information: Summary Report In May 2024, Public Services and Procurement Canada | Services publics et Approvisionnement Canada (PSPC) released a Request for Information (RFI) to assess industry readiness for the Canadian Program for Cyber Security Certification (CPCSC). On November 18th, PSPC released a summary report concerning the response it received to the RFI. The RFI gathered responses from 91 organizations, including contractors, consultants and service providers. The findings outline key readiness levels, challenges and investment expectations across sectors, emphasizing the importance of alignment with the United States Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC). https://lnkd.in/gu-eWApy

🙌 Enhanced #OpenData - the locations of Ontario's Correctional Institutions - now includes latitude and longitude coordinates, making it easier for people to create interactive maps using this data in popular web mapping programs 🌎. The #data can be downloaded from the Ontario Data Catalogue in CSV, TSV, JSON, or XML formats, or accessed through the catalogue's #CKAN API. While not in time for this year's #30DayMapChallenge this #Mapbox fly-to of Ontario's CECC was created using this open data in the #rstats package {mapgl} in two lines of code inspired by an example from the challenge. This is one of over thirty datasets publicly shared by the Ministry of the Solicitor General as open data. Electronic Monitoring Program Expands to Clarenville Area   The provincial government has expanded the #electronicmonitoring program to the Clarenville region. The region spans from Bellevue to Port Blandford along the Trans-Canada Highway and all of the Bonavista Peninsula.   The program allows for enhanced supervision for offenders on probation and conditional sentence orders where the court has imposed the electronic monitoring condition. It also enhances the supervision of those on a temporary absence from correctional facilities where electronic monitoring is deemed appropriate.   Offenders in the program wear ankle bracelets that provide 24/7 location data to probation officers to help enforce conditions such as curfews and no-contact orders. Public Services and Procurement Canada | Services publics et Approvisionnement Canada (PSPC) - Using or Providing Cloud Solutions for Controlled Goods Data On May 16th, PSPC released the following guidance on Canada Buys: Are you a registrant in the Government of Canada’s Controlled Goods Program who uses or provides cloud solutions to store data? If so, then you have a responsibility to ensure that controlled goods data is properly safeguarded in the cloud. Individuals and organizations registered in the Controlled Goods Program should: only use cloud solutions provided by cloud service providers registered with the Controlled Goods Program encrypt their controlled goods data when uploading or transferring data to the cloud restrict access to their controlled goods data to individuals who have been security assessed under section 15 of the Controlled Goods Regulations report security breaches affecting their cloud-stored controlled goods data to the Controlled Goods Program Cloud service providers should: register with the Controlled Goods Program to be able to store controlled goods data implement a security plan detailing the controls used to protect the physical assets and locations for their cloud solutions as well as the cloud environment itself ensure that only employees who have been security assessed under section 15 of the Controlled Goods Regulations have access to a client’s controlled goods data when providing technical assistance https://lnkd.in/eEPWPuSU

You already have great programs in place, give them more program funding!: Innovation Solutions Canada Testing Stream, Commercilization Stream, IDEaS. The inaugural Operation: Defend the North by siberX was held this June and was a one-of-a-kind event (see takeaways below) that simulated an attack to Ontario's power grid. The next installment will be in December, covering a supply chain collapse in the holiday season. I'm honoured to participate in and contribute to its preparation. If you missed out in June, make sure you attend this one! So many eye-opening insights were shared by leaders in the public and private sectors. Here are some key takeaways from the last event related to crisis management and cyber incident response: - The cost of proactive measures (e.g., OT pentesting, cyber controls) is 6-9 times less than the actual impact of a cyber incident. - M&A activities often overlook potential compromises or resource constraints within target companies, increasing post-acquisition risks. - Crisis communication is crucial for protecting your organization’s reputation. - Tailor your message based on the communication channel. - During a cyber incident, it's important to remember that employees will prioritize family safety, often placing response efforts second. - The engineering team should focus on technical recovery, not managing communications during a crisis. - Relationships need to be established before a crisis—you can’t build trust in the middle of an incident. - In a cyber incident, public safety takes precedence, with the cyber response working quietly in the background. - Relying on a single MSSP or IR provider for multiple sites can leave you vulnerable if multiple locations are affected simultaneously. - In crisis scenarios, fuel shortages become a critical issue, with essential services like hospitals needing priority. - Food security will quickly become a concern during prolonged incidents, affecting the broader population. #CyberSecurity #CrisisManagement #OTSecurity #BusinessContinuity #IncidentResponse #RiskManagement
